Shashone Spire 5.8

Shashone is the classic Blodgett Canyon climb. Five pitches of broken crack climbing lead you to the top of this 600-800 foot formation. There are many ways to do this climb so I am not going to give a detailed description. I highly reccomend this route to anyone with solid leading skills. A single rack with nuts, tricams, and cams to 3 inches is a good start with more depending on how you feel about running things out. The decent requires a walk off to the East and a double rope rappell off of the "Lunch Ledge." For the rappell look for a tree that looks like a devil's pitch fork or bonsai tree.

Directions

Take Route 93 south out of Missoula and take a right when you see a sign for the Blodgett Creek Trail Head. Follow the signs to the trail head and start hiking. A two mile approach on the trail will bring you to a scree feild. When you see an island in the creek cross over the two logs and start the slog up the hill. The climb follows the left side of the formation and the decent is on the right.
