Bear Creek Ice

Click here to see photos of Bear Creek Ice.

Description

Bear creek is one of the most road accessable ice areas near Missoula. There are many different flows of varying difficulty along with some mixed opportunities. The temperatures need to be really cold for at least a week for there to be enough ice due to the fact that all of the climbing is on the south facing wall.

Directions

To get to Bear Creek take HIghway 93 south out of Missoula past Stevensville and Victor and look for the Forrest Service sign for the Bear Creek trail head. Turn right here on Bear Creek Road and follow the signs to the trail head. From the trail head you can cross over to the north side of the creek and bushwack north to a series of cliff bands. Follow the cliff bands west to multiple different flows. There is also more slabby ice up the trail on the north side of the creek approximately 1-2 miles from the trail head.
